I’m Stephen Gallagher, a Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Officer at the City of Dublin Education and Training Board (CDETB). Our board serves 20,000 learners across post-primary, further, adult, and prison education. My role involves embedding digital technologies into teaching and learning, supporting educators and learners across all spheres, and ensuring that digital tools add value and enhance the quality of education.

Why We Chose the Digital Learning Institute

As an educator for 13 years, transitioning out of the classroom, I’ve always believed in the potential of digital tools to improve learning outcomes. COVID-19 accelerated the need for digital transformation, and we decided to consolidate our tools and approaches to deliver consistent, high-quality learning experiences.

The Digital Learning Institute provided the structure and expertise we needed to train educators across various centers. The decision to partner with them was driven by strong recommendations, accreditation, and their practical approach to digital learning design.

How DLI Transformed Our Approach

Through the Professional Diploma in Digital Learning Design, we trained 20 educators from across our service spheres. The course provided practical tools and frameworks like ADDIE, multimedia design, and virtual classroom strategies that we’re now applying to blended and online learning projects.

For example, two educators are currently redesigning a six-week blended module using the frameworks from the course. This initiative, along with others, is helping us create structured, impactful digital content across our organization.

The course sparked significant change. It allowed us to consolidate our approach to digital tools, reducing complexity and improving the support we provide to educators and learners. By training our own staff, we’ve reduced the need for external resources and built lasting capacity within our organization.
